Fun fact Friday! Thomas Henry White 1843 - 1923. Architect of Firth Tower, Matamata. British born, White immigrated to New Zealand with his wife and family and farmed in Taupiri, Waikato. He was one of the most prolific architects in the Waikato during the final few decades of the 19th century. He worked with timber, brick and concrete and his portfolio included commercial buildings, houses, churches, hotels and bridges. Firth Tower was built in 1881/2. As well as The Tower, another of his concrete buildings still remains. A flour mill store in Ngaruawahia, Waikato. White was also well known in musical circles; he played the violin and clarinet.
